Jabrail district is bordered on the south-east of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains – on the left bank of the Araz River – in the south by Islamic Republic of Iran, on the south- west Zangilan, in the west Gubadli, in the north Khojavend and Fizuli in the east.

Jabrail district has been occupied by the armed Armenian-Russian forces since the 23th of August, 1993. 180 people were killed during the battles with Armenian forces. 60 civilians and 14 policemen were murdered, 90 people were captured or disappeared. About 180 people have got the status of a Karabakh War Invalid, 6 people were honored with the name of “the National Hero” .
