Khojali district was founded in the basis of Asgaran district in May 26th of 1991. Region was occupied by Armenian military forces in 1992. Area-0.94 thousand sq. kilometers Population-24417(in 1991) Azerbaijanis-12194(in 2004) Non-population-12223 There was 1 city, 2 settlements and 50 villages. The center is Khojali city. It is located in Karabakh range within 18 km from Agdam and 14 km from Khankendi. With Armenian occupation all the historical, cultural, religious monuments, cities and villages were destroyed. Apart from these, cemeteries were also demolished. Destroyed cemeteries in Kerkicahan settlement, Kosalar, Jamilli villages, and “Seyid qebri” in Meshali village can be a proof to this abominable behavior. Unfortunately 1 city, 1 settlement, 8 villages, 2495 houses, 31 industrial estates, 15 agricultural estates, 20 educational institutions ,14 health institutions, 56 cultural and 5 communication objects also faced with Armenian aggression.
